FAQ
What is Somos Society?
Somos Society is an independent documentary project dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of Philadelphia’s Puerto Rican community. We create films, collect oral histories, and build multimedia resources to honor the people and places that shape our culture.
Who runs Somos Society?
Somos Society is created by Abigail Torres Meléndez and Eric Meléndez, a husband-and-wife filmmaking team from Philadelphia who are passionate about documenting community histories.
Can I share my story or photos?
Absolutely. We welcome contributions from anyone who wants to add to this collective archive. Visit our La Historia Colectiva page to submit memories, images, or reflections. All submissions are reviewed before publication.
How often is the website updated?
We add new content on a rolling basis, including short films, articles, and community updates. Check back regularly or follow us on social media to stay connected.
Do you only feature Puerto Rican stories?
While Somos Society is focused on the Puerto Rican experience in Philadelphia, we also welcome stories from people and communities who have contributed to this shared history.
How can I get involved?
You can contribute your story, share the project with others, or invite us to screen our films in your community. Donating is another way to get involved in our project. Feel free to reach out via email: somossocietydoc@gmail.com
